8 Foods your should be eating to promote healthy hair growth

 

If your hair goal for the new year is longer hair; if you've prayed for it, placed it on our vision board or wrote it on our new year’s resolution list, one tip for healthy hair is to eat foods that contribute to the growth and the nourishment of your hair strands. Healthy foods are the foundation for growth and rejuvenation of the skin, nails and hair. A well balanced diet will promote healthy hair, hence if you eat toxic foods then no nutrients will be supplied to the hair leaving you with dull, dry, brittle hair. Here are a list of healthy foods you should be eating and why you should be eating them.

1. Green leafy vegetables

Dark green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale ,mixed greens and swiss chard are recommended in everyone’s diet; this is because it is an excellent source of vitamins A and C. These vitamins help the body to produce sebum which naturally hydrates the hair strands. 

2. Nuts

Nuts such as walnut, peanuts, almonds, cashews, and pistachio are a great source of zinc. Zinc contributes to the reduction of hair shedding. 

3. Eggs

This common breakfast staple is in most individual’s home and is a great source of protein. Protein is a major part of the hair strand structure. It keeps the hair shaft strong so that when manipulated it won’t break easily which is essential for length retention. In addition, it contains biotin which is an important hair growth nutrient.

4. Carrots

We all know carrots are good for eyesight but they are beneficial to hair growth as well. The vitamin A contained in carrots contribute to a healthy scalp. 

5. Whole Grains

Foods rich in whole grains such as crackers, cereal or bread are a great source of zinc, iron and vitamin B. These vitamins contribute to the hair’s elasticity. 

6. Salmon

Salmon is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12 and iron. These nutrients support the health of our scalp. It reduces dry scalp and scalp disorders which can give the hair a dull look.

7. Beans

These are packed with zinc, protein, iron, and even biotin. If you do not want to take hair supplements to promote growth, then this would be an excellent alternative. It does promote hair growth and has no side effects.

8. Seeds

The seed we use to make flaxseed gel can also be consumed and still provide the same benefits. Like Salmon, Flaxseeds are full of omega-3 fatty acids which promotes a healthy scalp because it ensures the adequate production of sebum which keeps the hair conditioned and ultimately improving the strength, elasticity and thickness. 

Although, this last tip is not a food, water is great for hair growth as well. Drinking water helps to keep your body and hair hydrated from the inside out. Your circulatory system is continuously regulated by water, which feeds the hair follicles the necessary nutrients to stimulate hair growth. 

Nutrition plays a key role in our hair growth. So do employ all the hair techniques this year but don’t forget to give your body the nutrients it needs by eating healthy. Remember you are what you eat.
