What is self-care?

While self-care can mean many things to many people it is simply any activity to take care of you mental, physical and emotional well-being. Here are some of the things that have helped me on my journey to self care.

  1. Water on an empty stomach in the morning

Water is essential and water on an empty stomach boosts your metabolism and makes you eat less. It is also linked to reducing high blood pressure. I drink water on an empty stomach daily and drinking the appropriate amount of water each day is self care.

  1. Salad

Did you know salad reduces high blood pressure? Not only the lettuce but all the vegetables. It has so many health benefits that there is probably an entire book on it somewhere. Today finding a good salad is easy. Most markets have several varieties of salad kits and salads have never been more popular.

  1. Tea

Tea has so many health benefits. You can use tea to flush your body and eliminate toxins every night. This includes sodium. Tea can also help control high blood pressure. I drink a liter of water during the day (maybe more) and I have the tea before going to bed at night.

  1. Stress

We all know bad stress is bad for you but in order to eliminate bad stress you can turn off negative programming, negative music that celebrates destructive lifestyles, movies that celebrate violence and people with hidden agendas. There is so much information, good and bad, in the media and you become less stressed by turning that stuff off. Unplugging from social media and the television is certainly a form of self-care.

  1. Go natural

Take your power back. You are beautiful. Natural hair is self care. You will save money and time. You will love yourself and others will love you too.

These are just some of the things that I do and they have benefited me. Maybe they will benefit you too.
